Coed Llyn Y Garnedd

Posted by John Kiely (Manchester, United Kingdom) on 28 January 2012 in Landscape & Rural.

Coed Llyn y Garnedd is one of the main areas of woodland that I have been returning to over the last three years for the Forest Nation project. It is, or was, a predominantly coniferous plantation that is now being harvested. Some of the regimented areas have been totally cleared while most of the work has consisted of selectively felling trees on the hill sides. It always surprises me how they can fell these huge pine trees, and avoid crushing the native trees. I became concerned as I approached one of my regular shooting locations which had a derelict hut with hawthorn trees growing through it. Tilhill have completely removed the coniferous trees, leaving an almost lunar landscape, but have managed to leave te hut and hawthorns intact, impressive.
